We at Smart Carz aim to offer the highest level of workmanship and customer care on the market.

Founder and director of the company Darren Dalwood rose to the top of the Vehicle Repair and Refinish Profession as Global Head Trainer for BASF – the world’s largest chemical company, prior to establishing Smart Carz based in Somerset.

He has worked as a Global Head Trainer teaching the industries top technical trainers on a truly global scale! He has carried out specialist courses for BMW, Ford, Honda, Peugeot, Citroen, Thatcham Insurance Repair and Research Centre, and locally, Bridgwater College. He also wrote the complete technical M.E.T qualification for the Institute of the Motor Industry!

On the custom side of things, he has worked with the world famous Chip Foose (star of the hit MTV show ‘Overhaulin’) on several projects, and has been in charge of training the guys from West Coast Customs!

Darren, while working for BASF, had the technical responsibility for all of the key markets globally, and regularly assessed the abilities of an individual country’s top technical trainers, then worked on specialist training according to needs.

Darren also worked for a well-known company specialising in SMART (Small to Medium Area Repair Techniques).

His mission with Smart Carz is to bring the complete package of the highest quality bodyshop repairs AND SMART repairs to the customer at either the fully equipped workshop premises in Chard, or at the customer’s premises.

Unlike the competition Smart Carz is not a franchise, and all technical staff are primarily qualified in the Body Repair and Refinish Profession, and then taught the specialist SMART Repair techniques. Only when Darren is confident that the mobile technician is fully competent, he will be allowed to go out on his own and represent the company. A BIG difference to the franchises! One week ‘a washing machine salesman’ - the next, a ‘SMART Repair Technician’… This, in Darren’s opinion, is giving what is essentially an extremely highly qualified industry, a bad name. Some franchised ‘technicians’ deliver very poor quality work because they lack the essential and fundamental bodyshop and paintshop skills.
